Berdia Arabuli (b. 1988) is a contemporary Georgian artist whose work is deeply rooted in the rugged beauty and spiritual landscape of his homeland, Khevsureti. Raised in the highlands of the Caucasus, Arabuli developed an early and profound connection to visual storytelling, which led him to pursue professional training at the Apollon Kutateladze Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Fine Arts.
His artistic journey is defined by a dialogue between his traditional roots and a modern abstract expressionist language. His paintings explore the intersection of the physical world and the intangible realms of memory, emotion, and existence. Arabuli’s work has been showcased in international exhibitions, including in Greece and the Czech Republic, and his pieces are held in private collections across Georgia, Germany, the Netherlands, and beyond.
He is a master of printmaking, with expertise in classical techniques such as lithography, linocut, etching, and monotype. This graphic proficiency lends a textural richness and structural precision to the layered complexity characteristic of his large-scale canvases.
Beyond the studio, Berdia has established himself as a prominent production designer in cinema. This cinematic expertise in constructing atmosphere and spatial narrative forms the foundation of his distinctive approach to abstract painting, specifically in his use of composition and light. His portfolio includes A Long Break (2022, dir. Davit Pirtskhalava), an Official Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF); Aldi (2024, dir. Giorgi Arabuli), a winner at the Batumi International ArtHouse Film Festival; and his most recent work, Chain (2026, dir. Giorgi Khurtsilava).
In addition to his work in fine arts and film, Arabuli has a substantial background in publishing. He has designed covers and provided illustrations for over 40 books, demonstrating a unique ability to translate literary narratives into compelling visual forms.
